Is there any tool, or combination of tools, that will let me strip the video (and preferably the audio, but I'll do 'em separately if I have to) out of a Matroska file and into an AVI file? If possible, re-encoding from RealWhatever into XviD or something else that VLC likes? (I tried VirtualDubMod and AVIMuxGUI, but neither produced anything but another unusable Mastroska file.) I'll cheerfully admit to being new at this, so fling your barbs accordingly. Unfortunately, while I can find plenty of things that will package Matroska files, I haven't found anything yet that will let me strip the components back out into an AVI (or anything VLC understands) file. What I'd like to do is do the same thing with these stupidly-encoded MKV files. I had good luck a few days back, being able to re-encode a stupidly-encoded AVI file to something that VLC understood (I used VirtualDub and simply converted it to an XviD file. I downloaded and installed RealAlternative, but at that point, VLC will play the audio but no video, and Media Player Classic will play the _video_, but no audio. The other half have the video encoded with UNDF, which I thought at first meant 'undefined' but which a search of the archives shows to be RealMedia codecs (which I also saw that VLC doesn't support). Half the series is well-behaved, encoded mostly with XviD. Even I'll admit this is a weirdy, so if no one knows, I'll understand.
